ARMAGEDDON-A SPACE DISASTER MOVIE

This review is about the movie Armageddon, it belong to the Sci-fi disaster movie genre and it is about a group of oil drillers saving the earth from an asteroid which is about to destroy the earth.

Released in the year 1998, directed by Michael bay, starring Bruce Willis, William fitchner, Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, Owen Wilson, Steve Buscami , this movie was a commercial success on its release.

The plot is like an asteroid is detected and earth will be destroyed if it hits the earth. To save the earth, NASA calls up the best oil driller in the world, Harry played by Bruce Willis. They have to drill a hole in the asteroid and trigger a nuke bomb, so the asteroid shaves off and does not hit the earth. There were lot of hurdles in this mission and whether Harry succeeds or not makes the end of the story.

Space was a craze before. People have their dorm filled up with cuttings of newspaper photos of space rockets and getting into NASA was a dream. But as time went on, things have changed and currently no craze exists. Movies based upon space stories were a hit when they were made during that period.

This movie is released in the time when people were not thrilled about space stories. Still it’s a major hit because of the commercial direction of Michael bay and mind blowing visual effects.

The performance of the multistarrer cast in this movie is excellent as they have truly lived to their role.

Aerial views and camera lighting for different scenes is unique and fast paced editing makes the movie thrilling to watch. We are jerked by the initial few scenes of meteors hitting the city and those explosion scenes are mind blowing.

It is great to see Bruce Willis as a father going to save the world but still worried of the relationship between his daughter and driller Frost played by Ben Affleck. The good thing is Bay has kept all the science explained in this fictional story. The emotionally engaging scenes are well placed between the fast paced action scenes. They slow us down and make us emotional to the depth of the destruction. The training scenes are the most funny scenes and greatly enjoyable.

Climax is amazing but sad.

This movie is recommended for all action, adventure and Sci-Fi movie lovers
